Step into the welcoming entrance hall, glazed double doors straight ahead lead to an internal hall with the impressive turned staircase, to the left the Gallery, an inspiring room of 54m² with three sets of glazed double doors leading out to the terrace, and to the right another reception room currently a grand dining room, with more french windows leading outside. Leading from this room, double half-glazed doors to a further reception room which could be an extension of the dining room and a single solid door to another room, currently being used as a breakfast room but formerly the playroom, which is convenient if you are cooking and want your children nearby but not under your feet..
From here you walk into the kitchen which has a wonderful fireplace with an open fire and a large central island. Behind the kitchen is the back kitchen with a door to stone staircase down to the cellars, and beyond this the laundry room. On the other side of the hall, leading from the Gallery, through two sets of double doors you come into the grand, double length drawing room (or possibly the ballroom) with a beautiful fireplace and huge mirrors taking up one wall. This room lends itself to being divided in two, with the study off to one side.
Up the stairs you arrive on a long landing which goes almost the entire length of the house. There are 7 bedrooms on this floor ranging from 18m² to 31m² , six of which have fireplaces and five of which currently have en-suite shower rooms.
Up again to the second floor, where there are a further 7 bedrooms and three bathrooms. The house is efficiently and economically heated by an oil boiler and heat exchange pump, the roof and woodwork has all been well maintained.
The whole house has recently been renovated and redecorated throughout, a lot of it with Roberto Cavalli wallpaper, giving a stylish and modern feel without losing the character of the rooms.
The park and gardens surround the house and there are some fabulous very tall trees. The chapel is tucked away in the corner and the swimming pool is out in the sun. There are three small outbuildings, one of which is the pump house for the pool. There are two areas of kitchen garden, with soft fruit including raspberries and strawberries. The nearest neighbour is a riding stables.
Wow! the location is truly stunning: little lanes winding among the rolling hills of this really beautiful part of the south Vienne. So much less flat than some areas further west. Access is easy too as the infrastructure is good - Poitiers is only 35 miles away and Limoges airport only 43 miles, so two good airports with low-cost flights to and from the UK. From Poitiers station you can get a TGV train direct to Paris in 90 minutes, or to London with one change, either in Paris or Lille.
